WSMR holds Prayer Breakfast
The White Sands Missile Range community held a prayer breakfast June 21 at the Post Chapel.
WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. Eric Little spoke about balance and the importance of making time for spiritual fitness in his welcome remarks.
USMC Retired Col. James R. Harper was the guest speaker.
Harper told the story of the submarine incident off Kildin Island on Feb. 11, 1992, where there was a collision between the US Navy nuclear submarine USS Baton Rouge and the Russian Navy nuclear submarine B-276 Kostroma near the Russian naval base of Severomorsk.
Harper said that is an example of what we see today in the world and how we are living in darkness. He said that despite both submarines having great technology they were still operating in the dark and crashed.
“We operate with great technology, yet we don’t see what’s coming,” Harper said.
He said it is important to acknowledge that God does exist because he can see what is coming and he can guide us.
Garrison Chaplain Lt. Col. Eric D. Park gave the invocation, followed by a scripture reading by 2nd Battalion 5th Special Forces Group Chaplain Capt. Joseph Newby.
3-6 Air and Missile Defense Detachment Lt. Jacob Gann followed with the Prayer for our Nation and Director of Religious Education Paul Ramsey said the Prayer for WSMR.
Attendees were invited to breakfast spread following the event.
