WSMR holds October 2024 Honors and Retirement ceremony

Several individuals were recognized during the White Sands Missile Range Honors and Retirement ceremony Oct. 29 at the Post Theater.

Individuals received Length of Service Awards, Commander’s Coins, Certificates of Achievement and Civilian Honorary Awards followed by retirement recognitions.

John E. Moore, the Training Instructor for the Site Defense Force in support of the Survivability, Vulnerability and Assessment Directorate, received a certificate of retirement from WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. George C. Turner and WSMR Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Cordery.

Moore, a native of Rogers, Arkansas began his federal career when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1984 and served until 1990. After that he was in the Reserves from 1991-1994 and then the National Guard from 1998-2003.

He served in many federal positions throughout his career. He joined WSMR as a Federal Police Officer for the Directorate of Emergency Services where he served until 2012.

Moore thanked his wife for standing by him during his career.

“I’d like to thank the White Sands command team and test center for giving me the privilege to serve.”

Mark A. Horst, Chief of the Applied Environments Division of the Survivability, Vulnerability and Assessment Directorate, also received a certificate of retirement from Turner and Cordery.

Horst is retiring after more than 39 years of civilian service at WSMR. After earning a Mechanical Engineering degree at New Mexico State University, he started his career in July of 1985 at the Dynamic Environments Branch of the Army Materiel Test and Evaluation Directorate.

As a test officer and test engineer, he conducted numerous climatic and dynamic environmental test programs of many missile systems at WSMR.

Horst said his time at WSMR went by so fast and thanked everyone for their support.
