WSMR holds career fair at Doña Ana Community College
White Sands Missile Range representatives were at the Doña Ana Community College at the East Mesa Campus in Las Cruces Sept. 11 for a career recruitment event looking to hire security guards.
Debra Clark, Human Resources Specialist at WSMR, said DACC offers a law enforcement and criminal justice certification, and they were there to focus on recruiting students for security guard positions at WSMR.
She said WSMR partnered with DACC who was also doing a resume review for their students. Clark said it was a good opportunity to meet candidates who were able to apply online on iPads.
Fernando Benavidez, an applicant, and a U.S. Veteran who served with the U.S. Air Force eight years, said having the WSMR team at the college campus gave students a better opportunity to apply as they passed by the information table. “I think they are going to get a good turnout.”
Isaac Ortega, who found out about the career fair through his wife who is a student at DACC, said he is interested in working for the U.S. Government. “Staying local and being close to my family is something I am interested in.”
As a civilian with no government affiliation, he said it is nice to know that he can work for the government.
Santana Romero, a security guard representing WSMR at the career fair, said the event was a good way to recruit security guards to help keep WSMR secure.
“This is a great job to get your foot in the door in the federal system.” She said some of the benefits include good pay and a good work schedule. “We have a great community and work well with each other.”
The career fair opening is available through Oct. 2, 2023. Applicants can submit their applications at https://www.atecciviliancareers.com/
Chief Jose Luis Jimenez said some of the skills that would come in handy include military service and any weapons training.
“We are looking for honest individuals who can do a good job.”
