WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (June 13, 2023) On June 10, White Sands Missile Range leadership hosted the annual Army Ball at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces. Over 200 guests including service members, staff, and family attended in honor of the Army’s 248th birthday.
The event was hosted by WSMR Commander Brig. Gen. Eric D. Little, WSMR Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Cordery, White Sands Test Center Commander Col. Shawn Smart, WSMR Garrison Commander Col. David A. Mitchell, and WSMR Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Devin Winnegan.
The evening kicked off with a photo studio, cocktail hour, and a receiving line where WSMR leadership and their spouses welcomed the guests. Between ceremonies involving long standing veterans and dinner, there were toasts, and live jazz music played by the Fort Bliss 1st Armored Division Jazz Combo Band.
Guest speaker Riki Ellison, Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance Chairman and Founder and former NFL football player, spoke to the guests about work ethic despite all odds in the name of a greater purpose.
After the cake cutting, Little’s closing remarks, and the Retiring of the Colors, the DJ opened the dancefloor to guests who danced as the evening came to an end.
