White Sands Missile Range leadership signs Fire Prevention Week Proclamation
WSMR Garrison Commander Col. Donyeill A. Mozer and WSMR Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Jamal N. Latore gathered with WSMR fire fighters at Fire Station One on post to sign the Fire Prevention Week Proclamation.
This week is Fire Prevention Week and this year’s campaign is “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!”
The focus of Fire Prevention week 2024 is on understanding the different sounds smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors make, knowing how to respond to them and encouraging proactive steps to protect homes and workplaces from fire hazards. Statistics reported by the National Fire Protection Association show fires cause thousands of deaths, injuries and billions of dollars in damages worldwide each year. Many of these incidents are preventable with the proper knowledge, awareness and precautions.
