Meet WSMR’s Sexual Assault Response Coordinator
Juan Rodriguez is the new Sexual Assault Response Coordinator at White Sands Missile Range.
What is your background serving in the U.S. Army and what led you to serve?
I served in the U.S. Army for 14 years as a Paratrooper. Most of my career I was assigned to the 82D Airborne Division but had other assignments to Korea, Fort Hood, and Fort Bliss. I was retired in 2013 and wanted to still be part of the Army as a civilian Sexual Assault Response Coordinator. What led me to serve was seeing my father in uniform as a kid and wanting to serve like he did.
Where was your last assignment?
My last assignment was as a Victim Advocate at the Sergeants Major academy located at Fort Hood.
Where is home for you?
Home for me is now Las Cruces, New Mexico but I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois.
What are your goals for WSMR and what do you hope to accomplish?
My goals and future accomplishments are to help eliminate Sexual Harassment and Assault on White Sands Missile Range by creating a climate that respects the dignity of every member of the WSMR family. Also, I would like to promote a cultural change across WSMR with a vision toward a culture of discipline and respect in which Soldiers and Civilians intervene to protect one another.
What do you think of WSMR?
I really like WSMR. Coming from large installations I really like the tight knit community here.
What do you like to do during your free time?
Every minute I get away from work I love spending with my family.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I was in a movie with Danny Glover.
