June Bisbey Volunteer Angel of the Year Award presented to Jim Eckles

Jim Eckles, a volunteer and retired White Sands Missile Range employee, received the 2022 June Bisbey Volunteer Angel of the Year Award in recognition of his service and dedication to our community.

Eckles, a WSMR Public Affairs Office employee for 30 years, volunteers at the annual Trinity Site Open Houses and is also a member of the White Sands Historical Foundation.

He is also a member of the WSMR Hall of Fame and the author of several books to include “Pocketful of Rockets: History and Stories Behind White Sands Missile Range”.

The award was to be presented at the annual Volunteer Recognition ceremony June 8, but Eckles was unable to attend.

The award, which started in 2014, is named after June Bisbey, who was WSMR’s first official Baby Strong Volunteer.
