Green Chile Fest spicy event

The WSMR Community came out to enjoy tasty food and spicy events during the Green Chile Fest Aug. 22 at the Frontier Club.

The food was hot, and the games were spicy. As the chiles got hotter the contestants started to drop out of the chile eating contest leaving only two to battle until the end.

In the end first place went to Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Herb Lemke who was able to swallow a Carolina reaper whole. Second place went to Denise Arnold who was able to finish a ghost pepper, with third place going to Rob Mesler who ended with a habanero pepper.

The salsa dish contest was a race for time with contestants answering trivia questions to earn additional ingredients.

In the end Team Cordery took first place, with Team WSMR taking second place and third place went to Team Navy Federal Credit Union.

The cooks kept the flames going by preparing green chile hamburgers and roasting peppers in the hot weather.

Children in attendance had a chance to do crafts and color and kept cool by enjoying the giant bubble machine.

The next community social event scheduled is the American Heroes Softball Game on Sept. 11 with the WSMR Firefighters vs Police Officers. Don’t forget to put it on your calendar and come out to see who wins.
