Cordery speaks at New Mexico National Guard ball

White Sands Missile Range Command Sgt. Maj. Michael S. Cordery was the guest speaker at the first ever New Mexico National Guard 226th Military Police Battalion Ball Dec. 7 in Albuquerque.

The Rough Rider Battalion, as they are known, has a storied history and can trace its roots back to Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders and the Marechaussee Corps under George Washington.

In his speech Cordery discussed some history of the Military Police, the Rough Riders, and then brought that to present day Army messaging at being brilliant at the basics, taking care of people by providing them the necessary hard training that will enable them to fight, win and return home to their Families, empower and trust junior leaders.

His messaging also matched the Battalion Commander’s vision for his units.

The 226 have been deployed to Iraq, Kosovo, Southwest Border, Europe, and humanitarian and disaster assistance for the Ruidoso fires and floods of Las Vegas.

The Battalion Commander is Lt. Col. Jose Cruz and the Battalion Command Sgt. Maj. Is Jason Schlensig.

Cordery took a group photo with a few WSMR employees who are also serving in the New Mexico National Guard.
