Community comes out for Que Pasa event

The White Sands Missile Range community came out to participate in the Que Pasa WSMR Community Information and Hiring Fair Sept. 5 at the Frontier Club.

Several vendors filled two rooms at the Frontier Club where community members were able to get information about the community, jobs, and their health. They were able to meet with employers to discuss opportunities and hiring, learn about volunteer opportunities and network.

Tracy Broomfield, Army Community Service Employment Readiness Specialist, who organized this year’s event, said they had a lot more employers at the event this year.

She said a lot of people came through with their resumes applying for jobs and they also had several information tables.

Something new this year was the Veterans Center van and the Blue Cross Blue Shield care van where they were doing blood pressure and cholesterol checks. They were also doing A1C and glucose checks.

“Overall, it was a great event. We also had the command team come out to visit with us.”

Sam Zamora, who attended the event, said he thinks the event is a wonderful opportunity for the spouses of employees who work on post to see what opportunities are available to them.

“I really appreciate ATEC’s booth,” Zamora said.

He said it was a terrific opportunity for his wife to look into applying for a job with them.

Brandon Beaudreau, an attendee, said it was a good event.

“It was a good opportunity to talk to potential employers and network.”

Giselle Palomares, who was representing New Mexico Workforce Connection, said they help people get back into the workforce and help them with resumes, job search and mock interviews. They also have information on veteran programs and jobs.

She said they collaborate with employers who can post their job announcements on their website at www.jobs.state.nm.us where people can search for jobs.

“Our purpose is to connect the employee with the employer.”
