Col. Andrew Morgan holds Team WSMR’s first Commander’s Call

White Sands Missile Range Senior Commander Col. Andrew Morgan held Team WSMR’s first Commander’s Call to build esprit de corps across America’s Range at the Frontier Club Aug. 28.

"Commander's Call is an informal gathering where we build Team WSMR,” Morgan said.  “Participating in this tradition builds camaraderie, recognizes our people, and strengthens the relationships we need to keep America's Range running."

Morgan started the standing room only event, which was attended by military members, family members and civilians, by welcoming everyone to Team WSMR.

He used the opportunity to highlight several military members new to the community.

Morgan also took the time to show a printout of WSMR’s new emblem which was introduced during the WSMR Town Hall on Aug. 14, celebrating 80 years of heritage with “America’s Range, First to Test’.

“The legacy emblem has a proud heritage, so we wanted to preserve it while building on it. America's Range has a proud reputation for history-making tests of national importance. We have been the site where some of our nation's greatest concepts have been brought to life,” Morgan said during the Aug. 14 Town Hall. “We want this emblem to capture Team WSMR's origin story, its present contributions, and the exciting future ahead of this Range and its great workforce.”

The unveiling of this new emblem coincides with the 80th anniversary of WSMR, which was celebrated on July 9, 2025. A commemoration of the establishment of White Sands Proving Ground, now known as White Sands Missile Range, is scheduled for Oct. 17 at WSMR, followed by an 80th anniversary observance of the Trinity Site test on Oct. 18 during the Trinity Site Open House.

Morgan also highlighted Team WSMR initiatives, which are three interconnected visions: the Command Climate Vision, the Team WSMR Vision, and Community Commitment. The goal is for these three visions or concepts to be at the heart of everything done at White Sands Missile Range and will continue to guide the workforce in future endeavors.

At the end of the event Morgan and WSMR Command Sgt. Maj. Hermes Acevedo highlighted some of the many WSMR mementos that were donated by various directorates which will be displayed at the Frontier Club.
