Colonel Alexander C. Lovasz is a native of Columbus, GA, and attended Florida State University where he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Chemical Corps in 1998. COL Lovasz first assignment was as a Squadron Chemical Officer in 1-17 CAV, followed by Smoke Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer in 21st Chemical Company (ABN), all in the 82d Airborne Division, at Fort Bragg, NC.
COL Lovasz was then assigned to Special Operations Command Korea (SOCKOR) as the Chemical and Air Officer. He was then assigned to Camp Carroll, Korea, where he served as BN S-1 for 23rd Chemical Battalion and subsequently commanded 267th Chemical Company. LTC Lovasz then took command of 61st Chemical Company, at Camp Hialeah, Korea, where he facilitated the move of 23rd Chemical Battalion to Fort Lewis, WA.
COL Lovasz became Technical Escort qualified in 2005, and was assigned to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD where he commanded (WMD) Disablement Team 9 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). At the completion of the deployment, COL Lovasz took command of Charlie Company, 22nd Chemical Battalion (Tech Escort) as a Special Mission Unit (SMU). COL Lovasz returned to Korea in 2008 where he served first as the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) Deputy CBRN Chief and then as the S3 for the 2ID Division Special Troops Battalion (DSTB). In 2010, COL Lovasz was assigned to Spain to serve in NATO, Force Command Madrid, (FCMD) where he deployed to HQ, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul, Afghanistan, as a J35 Planner. In 2013, COL Lovasz again served as the CBRN Chief for NATO, at Joint Force Command Brunssum (JFCBS) in the Netherlands and then completed 22 months as the Battalion Commander for the Division Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion in 3rd Infantry Division (DHHB, 3ID). COL Lovasz also served as the Branch Chief at Human Resources Command (HRC) in Fort Knox, KY, Director of Staff (DoS) for the three star FRA HQ, Rapid Reaction Corps-France (RRC-FR) in Lille, France, and Commander for 48th Chemical Brigade at Fort Cavazos, TX dispersed across nine installations. COL Lovasz’ most recent assignment was at the Pentagon as the HQDA-G8 FDB Division Chief overseeing Mobility, Force Protection and CBDP portfolios.
His military education includes the Chemical Officer Basic Course, Chemical Officer Advanced Course, the United States Army Command and General Staff College, and the United States War College while attending the Institute of Higher National Military Education (IHEDN) in Paris, France. He earned a Bachelor’s in International Affairs from Florida State University in 1998 and a Master's in International Management from Troy State University in 2014.
COL Lovasz’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (1OLC), Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star (1OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 Star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal (Num 8), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal (ISAF) and a Joint Meritorious Unit Award. He also earned the Senior Parachutist Badge and the Korean Parachutist Badge. COL Lovasz was also awarded the Ancient Order of the Dragon for distinguished service to the Chemical Corps.
