LTC Benjamin L. Shumaker

 

Lieutenant Colonel Ben Shumaker received his commission from the University of South Dakota in 2002 and Graduated from Chemical Officer Basic Course. His assignments include: Division Staff Officer and Platoon Leader for 101st Airborne Division; Commander, Special Forces Operational Detachment – Alpha 5322, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group; Commander, Support Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group; Commander, Charlie Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group; Operational planning team lead, NATO Special Operations Headquarters in Belgium; Aide de Camp and Executive Officer to the Commander of NATO Special Operations Headquarters; USSOCOM Special Operations Liaison Officer – Amman, Jordan; Operations Officer, Special Operations Command – Europe in Stuttgart, Germany.

   LTC Shumaker’s deployment history includes: Four deployments to Northern Iraq as a Platoon leader and Detachment Commander in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, one deployment for a Joint Combined Exchange Training event in United Arab Emirates, one deployment in response to the rapid expansion of ISIS in Iraq, and one tour to Jordan to Train and Equip regional partner forces.

 LTC Shumaker’s civilian education includes: Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from the University of South Dakota, a Masters of Arts in Interagency Studies from the University of Kansas and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College. LTC Shumaker’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award (1 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (6 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Parachutist Badges from United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands, and the Special Forces Badge.

LTC Shumaker is married to his wife Emily and has three children; Bella (14), Liam (12) and Benjamin (8).
