Course Description:
Course number 7H-31D/830-ASIH3. 

Provide enlisted, warrant officer, commissioned officer, and civilian personnel with a working knowledge of planning and implementation of proper physical security measures to control pilferage, espionage, sabotage, other physical security threats, to include acts of terrorism, and the commission of crime in military communities and on military installations.

 

Scope:  

This course provides instruction to physical security specialists and supervisors of physical security sections on the planning and implementation of physical security measures. At the completion of this course, the student will be able to review and edit physical security plans; conduct physical security surveys, inspections, and risk analysis; and develop and recommend appropriate physical security solutions useful in hardening areas against criminal and terrorist acts

Prerequisites:

  • Military personnel: Enlisted grades E-5 and above (USMC E-3 through E-) with no exceptions.
  • Warrant and Commissioned officers
  • Civilian personnel: GS-05 and above. Other DoD equivalent civilian pay grades are authorized.
  • Must be assigned to physical security operations
  • Address exceptions to these prerequisites to the Director of Training & Education (DOT&E), USAMPS, Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473-8929

This course is NOT releasable to students from foreign countries.

Special Information:
This is an Additional Skill Identifier (ASI) producing course for personnel qualified in primary MOS 31B or 31E. In addition to the successful completion of this course, there are requirements which must be met in order to be awarded the H3 ASI. The ASI is not automatically awarded upon completion of the course. Portions of this course are conducted in hours of darkness and outdoors. Civilians must coordinate any timecard issues with their supervisors. All students will be required to access government computers and must have the ability to log on. It is imperative all students report with a fully functional Common Access Card (CAC.) Additionally, students will require a military email address.

Packing Lists:

  • Each student is required to have the following individual equipment items readily available throughout the training:
  • Duty uniform for Military personnel
  • Seasonal clothing (rain gear, cold weather gear, etc.)
  • Pen/paper for note taking
  • Civilians should wear appropriate business casual attire
  • Common Access Card (CAC) that will allow them to access government computers. Additionally, students will require a military email address.

***Students will be required to conduct practical exercises in an outdoor environment***

Graduation Dates:
Graduations will be on Friday of the second week at approximately 1700 hrs. Due to varying travel times, rental car returns, and heightened security requirements at airports; students should not plan early departures (prior to 2030 hours on the day of graduation) from either the Springfield or St. Louis Airports.

Transportation Issues:
If POV is authorized on your orders, ensure that your orders state: "IN AND AROUND MILEAGE IS AUTHORIZED". If you desire a rental vehicle, you must coordinate with your current command for approval and YOUR ORDERS MUST STATE: "RENTAL VEHICLE IS AUTHORIZED". Taxi service and on post shuttle buses are available for those students with no POV or rental vehicles. Students may be billeted off post up to 25 miles, so rental vehicle authorization is encouraged.

Billeting and Per Diem Issues:
Billeting and Per Diem will be determined on the location of the course. Fort Leonard Wood billeting can be reached Commercial: 573-596-0999 or DSN:581-0999. Coordinate Per Diem issues with your unit prior to course attendance.

Where to Report:
For Fort Leonard Wood in Residence Courses, all students are required to report to Building 2020, Candlewood Suites hotel located at 4990 Nebraska Ave for current in-processing information. In the unlikely event the hotel is closed, students will report to the Installation Operations Center (IOC) Watch Officer located in Headquarters Maneuver Support Center of Excellence (HQ MSCoE), Hoge Hall, building 3200, (573) 563-6126.
