Mission Statement:
The Retirement Services Officer provides counseling and assistance to active duty Soldiers, Retired Service members, widows, widowers, survivors, and family members from all branches of military service concerning rights, benefits, and entitlements. Retirement Briefings and Survivor Benefit Program briefings are also conducted for Soldiers and family members to attend. Forth Wainwright aslo has a Retired Soldiers Council and conducts an annual Retiree Appreciation Day (Open to all military retirees, regardless of branch of service).
Pre-Retirement Briefings:
It is required that all Soldiers retiring for Length of Service or Medical Retirement attend a Pre-Retirement and Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) Briefing. These briefings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in Bldg. 3401, room 135 from 0830-1200. Spouses are encouraged to attend these briefings as well. Individual briefings may be conducted on a case by case basis.
Retirement Ceremonies:
All Soldiers are encouraged to participate in a Retirement Ceremony. Soldiers may choose a Unit Ceremony or a Ceremony at a different installation. Fort Wainwright conducts the USARAK Quarterly Retirement Ceremonies which are held in November, February, June and August. The Northern Alaska Military Retiree Council meets on the first Thursday of every even numbered month. Meetings are held from 6-7 pm at the Last Frontier Community Activity Center.
Tax Season is in full effect. If you have not received your 1099-R or you cannot access MyPay, please contact me and I will ensure that you receive it.
MyPay is the easiest way to access your Retired Pay Account, Change your correspondence address, update Beneficiary information and much more. It is extremely important to make sure that you have a current correspondence address on file with DFAS Retired Pay.
