Motorcycle Riders

Motorcycle riders should complete their Motorcycle Safety courses state-side, before departing. 

Motorcycle Safety Course Availability for FY26

Due to temporary program-wide budget constraints in the Army Traffic Safety Training Program (ATSTP), training seats for the Motorcycle Basic Rider Course (BRC) and Advanced Rider Course (ARC) are extremely limited for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2026. This shortage is expected to last until mid-November 2026, when new fiscal year funding and task orders are finalized.

To ensure you can secure a seat and complete your mandatory training, please keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Class rosters must be finalized and locked 7 days in advance. Walk-ins or late registrations cannot be accommodated during this period.
    Wasted seats cannot be tolerated under current budget limits. If you register, you must show up. Standby rosters will be actively used to fill any sudden vacancies.
  • Because of a projected funding transition gap, no additional training slots will open between October 1st and mid-November 2026. Secure your dates now.

Soldiers who are unable to complete the Advanced Rider Course (ARC) due to limited course seat availability should follow this U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center (CRC) guidance:

  • AR 385-10 requires Soldiers to remain compliant with the Basic Rider Course (BRC)/Advanced Rider Course (ARC) progressive training requirements.
  • Soldiers must complete the BRC prior to operating a motorcycle. This requirement remains unchanged.
  • When a Soldier is unable to complete the ARC within the required timeframe due to limited course seat availability, and the Soldier has notified their chain of command and attempted to enroll, commanders may use their judgment to defer ARC attendance until seats become available.
  • This is not an exception to policy. The ARC requirement still stands, and Soldiers are expected to attend the first available course once a seat is available.
  • A commander’s acceptance of deferred enrollment meets the intent of the regulation during periods of constrained training resources.
