Special Victims’ Counsel (SVC) Program
The Army created the Special Victim Counsel (SVC) Program as part of its efforts to address sexual assault within its ranks. This program is designed to provide stronger support for victims of sexual assault and ensure their rights are protected throughout the military justice system. At the same time, it aims to avoid unnecessary delays and respect the rights of the accused.
A Special Victim Counsel plays a key role by passionately advocating for their client’s interests and guiding them through every step of the military justice process.
A Special Victim Counsel (SVC)is a military lawyer who has received specialized training to represent and support victims of certain crimes, such as sexual assault, within the military's legal system. Appointed by the Judge Advocate General (JAG)— the military's top legal authority — an SVC's one and only job is to look out for their client. This means they will fight for you every step of the way, guiding you through what can be a complicated and overwhelming legal process. What makes an SVC unique is that their loyalty belongs entirely to you — not to the military, not to the government, and not to anyone else. Even if what is best for you does not align with what the U.S. Government wants, your SVC will still stand in your corner and advocate for your best interests. Simply put, an SVC is your personal legal champion, dedicated to making sure your rights are protected and your voice is heard.
If you are a victim of an actual or attempted sexual assault (whether or not you have reported the incident), you may contact an SVC at +49-611-143- 538-8445 or email (preferred).
