EAP Facts:

  •  The EAP is a free, voluntary, short-term (1 to 6 sessions), non-clinical consultation for employees, supervisors, and other eligible persons. 
  •  EAP services can address work &  non-work related concerns. 
  • EAPs are not clinicians; instead it is the EAPCs responsibility to help identify problems, make a basic screening determination, provide short-term non-clinical counseling, and/or provide appropriate referrals. 
  • EAPs are not first responders in a crisis; persons in a crisis should contact 911 or go to the nearest hospital or behavioral health clinic.
  • All federal employees are prohibited from using Scheduled 1 substances (including marijuana & THC) or illegal drugs on AND off duty.
  • Eligible persons may self-refer without their supervisor’s permission or knowledge utilizing personal leave. If requested, supervisors may grant leave based on local policy guidelines. 
  • Supervisors may refer an employee to seek EAP services for not meeting conduct or performance, or other reasons as appropriate.
  • Supervisor may contact the EAP for consultation related to team-building, improving workplace functioning, training, the EAP referral process, etc.
