Mission

The mission of the Casualty Assistance Office is to provide assistance to the grieving families of deceased military personnel, active duty and retired, by providing the final demonstration of our nation’s gratitude to those who faithfully defend our country in peace and war. Casualty Assistance provides assistance to next-of-kin of critically injured, ill or deceased Army Soldiers, retirees and veterans to include benefits counseling, military funeral honors and Casualty Assistance/Notification Officer (CAO/CNO) training.

To report a death or request military funeral honors, call 719-526-5613719-526-5614 or 719-526-2510. You can also email the Fort Carson Casualty Assistance Center.

Request forms for military funeral honors can be found here. Funerals conducted within 100 miles of Colorado Springs/Fort Carson require requests not later than 48 business hours prior. Funerals conducted more than 101 miles from Colorado Springs/Fort Carson require all request to be submitted not less than 72 business hours prior. Due to recent staff reductions and the requirement to give military units adequate response time to provide funeral teams, requests submitted on weekends and federal holidays will be processed the following business day. Therefore, funerals scheduled for Monday or Tuesday following a Monday holiday must be received in the Fort Carson Casualty Assistance Center no later than 4 p.m. on the Thursday prior to allow normal business day to coordinate and obtain requested support.

Required training for Casualty Notification Officer & Casualty Assistance Officer duties: Soldiers asked to perform this solemn duty must be a mature Soldier, sergeant first class through command sergeant major, chief warrant officer 2-5 or captain (with at least six years time in service) and above. AR 638-8, Chapters 4-5 and 5-3 outlines rank requirements.

Casualty Notification Officer & Casualty Assistance Officer Training dates class times are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
