The Army Substance Abuse Program mission is to strengthen the overall fitness and effectiveness of the Army's workforce, to conserve manpower, and to enhance the combat readiness of Soldiers.  This is accomplished through prevention and deterrence.

There are two (2) major ASAP functions:

-- Random drug testing as a means of deterrence and detection.

-- Prevention and Risk Reduction (awareness, education, and training).
