Trinity Site Open House dates to change
Dates for the Trinity Site Open House are changing to the second Saturday in April and October starting in 2022. The next Trinity Site Open House is scheduled for April 9, 2022.
The Trinity Site Open Houses were held on the first Saturday of April and October, but changes are being made to allow more time to plan for the event in coordination with the beginning of the fiscal year, according to White Sands Missile Range Chief of Public Affairs Scott Stearns.
More than 2,500 people from throughout the United States and overseas attended the Oct. 2 event after the April event was cancelled due to health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trinity Site is where the world’s first atomic bomb was tested at 5:29:45 a.m. Mountain War Time July 16, 1945.
The open house is free and no reservations are required. At the site visitors can take a quarter-mile walk to ground zero where a small obelisk marks the exact spot where the bomb was detonated. Historical photos are mounted on the fence surrounding the area.
For more information on the open house please visit the Trinity Site website at: https://www.wsmr.army.mil/Trinity/Pages/Home.aspx.
