POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Mission of the Fort Wainwright Police Department is to provide professional law enforcement services, and work in concert with the US Army Garrison community to provide a safe and secure environment for those living, working, and visiting Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
The Fort Wainwright Police Department is located at 3025 Montgomery Road (just east of Bassett Army Community Hospital).
The department consists of Department of the Army Civilian Police Officers, supplemented by active-duty Military Police (MP’s). The department has several functional sections to provide professional law enforcement services to the community.
Patrol Branch:
Police patrols are available 24/7/365 and are often the most visible part of the police department. The Patrol Branch provides proactive and professional police services responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance, providing traffic enforcement, and crime prevention efforts. Police Desk (Desk SGT):
The Police Desk is the central hub of all law enforcement activity; responsible for recording incidents, maintaining the desk blotter, controlling offenders in custody, monitoring the detention cells, keeping department and DES command teams informed of major incidents as they unfold, and managing the flow and quality control of law enforcement reports. Police Records:
The Police Records Section accurately processes, files, and disseminates law enforcement records to a variety of sources, including commanders, attorneys, courts, individuals, and the US Army Crime Records Center. The Police Records Section located within the police department, can be reached at 907-353-7552 from 7:00am – 3:30pm, Monday- Friday (excluding federal holidays). Crime Analysis/Statistics:
The Crime Analysis and Statistics Section gathers and analyzes data to identify patterns and trends related to criminal and noncriminal activity on the installation. Using various analytical tools and techniques, it prepares and conducts trend analysis and statistical information to provide to supervisors, investigators, and patrol officers to help determine most effective use of police resources - while also routinely responding to requests for information from internal and external sources. The section serves as a liaison to establish working relationships with counterparts within Fort Wainwright as well as local and state agencies, to ensure the free flow of information on matters of mutual interest.
The Investigations Branch conducts criminal investigations into misdemeanor and minor felony violations of the Uniformed Code of Military Justice, Alaska Statutes, and the United States Code, as well as all AWOL reports. The Investigation Section also maintains all evidence taken into custody by the police department. Investigations, located in building 3025, can be reached 24/7 through the Desk SGT.
Traffic Branch:
The Traffic Section consists of officers/MPs specially trained in documenting and investigating traffic accidents. Additional areas of responsibility include Abandoned Vehicles, Parking and Traffic Studies, Traffic Control for Special Events and Unit/Community Safety Briefs.
Conservation Law Enforcement:
Conservation Law Enforcement Officers (formerly known as Game Wardens) are committed to the preservation and sustainability of USAG Alaska’s Natural and Cultural Resources. Through the enforcement of laws, regulations, and public outreach, Conservation Officers work with command teams and the public to ensure that the wildlife, and natural and cultural resources will be there for years to come and for all to enjoy. Other services include Hunters Safety Classes, Outdoor & Wildlife Education, and Outdoor Recreation patrols and assistance. PMO Operations:
The Operations Section is responsible for coordinating all activities and scheduling of law enforcement personnel, operations, and taskings. The PMO Operations Officer can be contacted at 907-361-1647.
Military Working Dogs (K9):
The 549th Military Working Dog Detachment provides K9 support for the Fort Wainwright Police Department, providing handlers and dogs certified in patrol, drug, and explosive detection. Support is also provided to commands upon request in conducting Health & Welfare inspection. Commands can contact the PMO Operations Officer at 907-361-1647 for assistance in scheduling.

Traffic Citations

DD1408’s – The DD1408 (Armed Forces Traffic Citation) has no monetary penalty for violations, but the standard reporting instructions are to report this violation to a violators Commander, First Sergeant, or supervisor within 24 hours or immediately upon returning to duty. The commanders/supervisor will be notified by the Police Records Section to get the disposition of what action were taken (warning, administrative, verbal counseling, letter of counsel, letter of reprimand, letter of admonishment, Art 15, etc.). Points against a violators on-post driving privileges may also be assessed.

CVN’s - CVN (Court Violation Notice) is written to someone who has committed an offense on federal property. The citation may be designated a 'fix it ticket', mandatory court appearance ticket, or monetary ticket. U.S District Court occurs at the Federal Building -101 12th Avenue Fairbanks, AK. Military Protective Orders (MPO) & No Contact Orders

MPO - Commanders may issue a military protective order (MPO), an order prohibiting contact or communication with protected persons, when necessary to: (1) safeguard an alleged victim; (2) quell a disturbance; or (3) ensure the safety of any person.

If ensuring safety is not the purpose of the order, a commander may issue a no-contact order, a lawful order prohibiting contact or communication with specified persons under circumstances that do not justify the issuance of an MPO.
