Fort Riley Garrison Command Sergeant Major John T. Adkerson
CSM John T. Adkerson is a native of Georgia and he enlisted in the Army in October 2004 as a Combat Engineer. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
CSM Adkerson has served in every leadership position from team leader to Battalion CSM. His most current assignment was as the Battalion CSM of the 15th Engineer Battalion in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
CSM Adkerson’s previous assignments include Fort Liberty, North Carolina; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Stewart, Georgia; Fort Bliss, Texas and Grafenwoehr, Germany. He has deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti, Ukraine, and Poland in support of combat, disaster relief, and training operations.
CSM Adkerson’s military education includes Airborne School, Ranger School, Basic Leader Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Jumpmaster School, Advanced Leaders Course, Sapper Leader Course, Combat Life Savers Course, Urban Mobility Breaching Course, Route Recon and Clearance Leadership Course, Senior Leader Course, Pathfinder Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Mountain Warfare School (summer), and the Sergeants Major Academy. His civilian education includes a High School Diploma from Sevier County High School, an Associates of Arts from Grantham University, and a Bachelor of Arts from American Military University.
CSM Adkerson’s Military Awards and Decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award), Army Commendation Medal (6th Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Combat Action Badge, Sapper Tab, Ranger Tab, Pathfinder Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and Irish Jump Wings. He has also been awarded the Bronze de'Fleury and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Award.
