Fort Riley Garrison Commander Col. Joseph E. "Joey" Orr, Jr.
Colonel Orr commissioned as an Armor Officer in 2003 through the University of Kentucky. He has held leadership positions at every level of the Army, with assignments ranging from tactical troop command to strategic joint planning. His career includes service with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), and the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Colonel Orr’s overseas experience includes deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Colonel Orr previously served as the Commander of United States Army Garrison - Greely, Alaska, and his last assignment was as a Joint Planner with the Joint Enabling Capabilities Command. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Kentucky, a graduate degree from Kansas State University, and graduated from the National Defense University’s Joint Advanced Warfighting School.
Colonel Orr’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (6OLC), Combat Action Badge, and the Pathfinder, Parachutist, Air Assault and Mountaineer Badges. He is a member of the Order of Saint George and the Order of Saint Michael.
