What The Office Provides:
The Picatinny Arsenal legal assistance office provides confidential legal services to service members, their family members, and retirees. These services include military administrative and other personal legal matters, such as powers of attorney, simple estate planning, consumer law advice, or notary services. The office may provide ministerial services, legal counseling, or drafting of legal correspondence, or referral to qualified civilian counsel in appropriate cases.
Eligibility for Legal Assistance:
To receive free legal assistance, you must meet eligibility criteria under AR 27-3. Army Legal Assistance Program, para. 2-4. This generally includes regular component members of the Armed Forces, retirees who are entitled to or are receiving military retirement pay, reserve component or National Guard members meeting certain criteria, and dependents or surviving dependents of the foregoing eligible persons. DoD civilian employees are only entitled to legal assistance under limited circumstances as set forth further in the regulation.
How To Schedule An Appointment:
Appointments may be scheduled by calling or e-mailing our paralegal point of contact and requesting an appointment. You will be required to fill out client intake forms to explain your legal issue and need for assistance for an attorney to be assigned to your matter, which will be provided to you. Due to on-going COVID-19 restrictions, consultations and assistance will generally occur over the phone or via MS Teams or e-mail. In person appointments are scheduled on an as-needed basis only.
If leaving a voicemail to schedule an appointment, please leave your name, phone number, and an e-mail address to contact you at. Please note that the Picatinny Arsenal legal office does not have full time legal assistance attorneys, so there are no walk-in hours for appointments and appointments generally are not available same day at this time.
