CPT Sean S. McCoy is a native of Valley Center, California. He commissioned as an Infantry Officer through the ROTC program at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Bio Resource and Agricultural Engineering.
Following completion of the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course (IBOLC), CPT McCoy was assigned to the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. There, he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader in 2nd Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment. He subsequently held leadership positions as a Dismounted Reconnaissance Platoon Leader and HHT Executive Officer with 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment. During his time in these roles, he supported two Immediate Response Force activations. CPT McCoy later transitioned to brigade-level staff, serving as the Brigade Chief of Operations and the Brigade Air Operations Officer.
His military education includes the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course, the Maneuver Captains Career Course, Air Assault School, the Basic Airborne Course, the Jumpmaster Course, and Ranger School.
