Colonel Tasha N. Lowery
Native of Blackstone, Virginia, Colonel Tasha N. Lowery earned her commission from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in May 2002. Prior to commissioning, COL Lowery graduated from Marine Corps Boot Camp in Parris Island, SC and served in the Marine Corps Reserves for three years. COL Lowery earned her Master of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2014 and a Master of Science Degree in National Security Strategy in June 2021. She is a graduate of the Military Intelligence Officer Basic and Advanced courses, the Command and General Staff College and Senior Service College.
For 21 years of active commissioned service, Colonel Lowery has served in a variety of diverse assignments to include major combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Previous assignments as a Military Intelligence Officer include the Regimental Protocol Officer in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, Counterintelligence HUMINT Platoon Leader, and HQ Platoon Leader in the 511th MI CO, Division Protocol OIC, and Division C2X OIC while deployed to Mosul, Iraq in 2005; CJ2 Battle Captain, Special Forces LNO, and executive
assistant to the CJTF-82 Commanding General while deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan in 2007.
Colonel Lowery transitioned to the Adjutant General Corps in 2009 and held several positions while at Fort Bragg, NC to include Commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 82nd Division, Sensitive Activities G1, United States Army Special Operations Command, and Brigade S1, 95th Civil Affairs Brigade. In Stuttgart, Germany, she was assigned to the Special Operations Command-Africa (SOCAF) Headquarters as the J1 Chief, Manpower and Operations. COL Lowery then relocated to the Pentagon where she served as the military assistant to the Army G-1 and the aide-de-camp for the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army. After serving as the Commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division, COL Lowery attended and graduated from the National War College in June 2021. She previously served as the Secretary for the Joint Staff and took command of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in May 2023.
Colonel Lowery’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with four Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Iraqi Campaign Medal with two Campaign Stars, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and Parachute Badge. COL Lowery and her husband, CW5 Shawn D. Lowery, have a son, Shawn Jr. (SJ) who is 11 years old (an avid hockey player) and “Grandma Lucy", who is the engine that keeps it all running.
