CSM Jamila Z. Smith was born in Panama; however, she spent most of her life growing up in South Carolina. She graduated from LugoffElgin High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army five days later as a Military Police Soldier in June 1998. CSM Smith attended One Station Unit Training at FT McClellan, AL. Her most recent assignment was as Provost Sergeant Major for the Directorate of Emergency Services at FT Jackson, SC.

Previous assignments include: 293d MP Co., FT Stewart, GA; 179th MP Det., Hunter Army Airfield, GA; 57th MP Co., Camp Carroll, Korea; 13th MP Co., Caserma Ederle, Italy; F Co., 787th MP Bn. and D Co., 796th MP Bn., FT Leonard Wood, MO; 94th MP Bn., Yongsan, Korea; 503d MP Bn. (ABN), FT Bragg, NC; 728th MP Bn. and 8th MP BDE, Schofield Barracks, HI; 3-34 IN Reg., FT Jackson, SC; and the Directorate of Emergency Services, USAG-Fort Jackson, SC. Her leadership positions as a Military Police Soldier include Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Detachment Sergeant, and First Sergeant. CSM Smith’s deployments include two tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in Afghanistan.

CSM Smith’s military and civilian education includes: United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Non-Resident Class 44, Pre-Command Course (BN CSM), Garrison Pre-Command Course, Senior Leader Course (SLC), Advanced Leader Course (ALC), Basic Leader Course (BLC), Unit Prevention Leader, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Antiterrorism Instructor Qualification Course, TCAIMS II, Unit Movement Officer, USAF Airlift Planner, Total Army Instructor Training, Combatives Level I, Drill Sergeant School, Battle Staff, First Sergeant Course, Master Resilience Training Course Levels I and II, Antiterrorism Officer Basic Course, OPSEC Level II, Security Managers Course, and Security Engineering. She has earned an Associates of General Studies from Central Texas College and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Excelsior College. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.
