White Sands Missile Range is the premier military test range in America, earning its title as “Birthplace of America’s Missile and Space Activity.” Comprised of 3,200 squares miles White Sands Missile Range supports the Army, Navy and Air Force, as well as commercial and international users while conducting more than 3,000 tests annually.
Several White Sands Missile Range employees were recognized during the first of the new year’s Honors and Retirement Ceremony Jan. 15 at the Post Theater.
U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command Command Sgt. Maj. Bradford L. Smith presented five White Sands Missile Range employees with awards for their support to the mission during the government shutdown Dec. 10 at WSMR Headquarters.

Highway 380 is scheduled to be blocked one time. Highway 380 will set at 06:00 am. This block will last approximately two hours. Blocks will be at GOLD block which is located at MM3 and SILVER block which is located at MM49.

Roadblock Friday January 30, 2026 28 Jan 2026 17:28 Range Control has the following blocks affecting area highways on the following day:
Friday January 30, 2026
Highway 70 is scheduled to be blocked once starting at 7:10 AM for approximately one hour, lifting around 8:10 AM. This block will be located at RED Block (Top of San Augustin Pass/Mile Marker 164) and YELLOW Block (White Sands National Park /Mile Marker 200). The Las Cruces Gate, Owen Road, and Nike Avenue will also be affected.

Tests– White Sands Missile Range supports the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as commercial and international users on a reimbursable basis. More than 42,000 tests have been conducted at White Sands Missile Range the past 76 years. About 9 tests are conducted daily, and more than 3,000 annually.
Economic Impact – White Sands Missile Range produces an estimated economic impact of $10.3 million daily, and $3.7 billion annually in Las Cruces, Doña Ana County and the surrounding borderland region. On average, military spending accounts for 30 percent of wages in Southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas.
Demographics– White Sands Missile Range has approximately 6,000+ civilian employees, 350 servicemembers from the Army (~ 230), Air Force (~110) and Navy (~20), 950 housing residents (374 housing units available) and 300 elementary and middle school students.
