Scope: Training in this course includes all specific competencies outlined in NFPA 1006, Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications Level II in Rope, Confined Space, Vehicle and Machinery, Trench, and Structural Collapse Rescue. These competencies include identifying and performing high angle rescue principles and operations; identifying and performing confined space rescue principles and operations; identifying and performing helicopter ground support operations; identifying and applying the incident command system during rescue operations; and performing inspections and maintenance for personal protective equipment and rescue equipment in confined space environments; stabilizing a commercial/heavy vehicle or machinery incident; creating access and egress openings from a heavy vehicle or machinery incident; extricating a victim(s) from a heavy vehicle or machinery incident; conducting a size-up of a collapsed structure and trench incident; determining potential victims locations; developing a collapse rescue incident action plan; implementing a collapse and trench rescue incident action plan; searching a collapsed structure; stabilizing a collapsed heavy-frame structure as a member of a team as a member of a team, implementing collapse and trench support operations; releasing a victim from entrapment from structural or trench incident; removing a victim from a collapse and trench incident; lifting and moving a heavy load as a team member; breaching and cutting heavy structural components; constructing cribbing and load stabilization systems; coordinating the use of heavy equipment; supporting a nonintersecting trench as a team member; installing ground pads, sheeting and shoring; terminating a structural and trench emergency incident. Students who successfully complete the Level I US and R Extractor training through this course will receive DOD certification as accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) or National Professional Qualifications Board (Pro-Board) and be entered into the DOD Fire and Emergency Services Certification Program System.
