At the Fort Wainwright Housing Services Office (HSO) we want you to know we understand how stressful moving can be for you and your family and we want to make this process as easy as we can. Whether you are living on or off post, if you are having issues with your home or barracks, the Fort Wright HSO is here to assist you. All service members are required to report to the HSO to receive a housing briefing before entering into any type of rental or sales agreement.

The Unaccompanied Personnel Housing Branch (UPH) oversees the Army Barracks Management Program (ABMP) for Fort Wainwright. Under ABMP your unit manages your barracks. Your barracks managers are appointed by the battalion commander and are trained by the Housing Division UPH branch in all matters that pertain to running and maintaining your barracks.
If you are a single unaccompanied Service Member E-5 or below, you will be housed in one of the 29 Fort Wainwright Barracks Facilities. Your Barracks Manager will assign your room, give you your occupant briefing and then clear you at the end your tour. Your Barracks Managers are also responsible for overall barracks management, such as good order and discipline, ensuring items in the barracks needing repaired are called in for repair, and making sure your barracks are clean and serviceable.
Barracks are normally assigned at the company level or battalion level, so more than likely you will be living with Soldiers from your battalion. Your unit barracks manager will meet you the second or third day of your in-processing to post. They will gather information about you, they will ask for copies of your assignment orders, and current LES and ERB. They will sit down with you and brief you on the rules and expectations of your unit barracks. They will conduct a room inspection with you and your supervisor to ensure there is no existing damage and that your furnishings are all there.
Be sure to carefully inspect your room and inventory your furnishings, annotate any damage to the room or the furnishings. This will ensure you are not held accountable for preexisting damage or missing furniture. After your inspection and inventory, you will sign for your room and your furnishings.
