Dr. Kevin L. Griess

Dr. Kevin L. Griess serves as Deputy to the Garrison Commander of U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz. Prior to his current assignment, from 2015-2017, Dr. Griess was the Installation Management Command-Europe Liaison Officer at IMCOM Headquarters in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Griess began his 36-year federal service career when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1981 as a law enforcement patrolman. During his military career, he served as an explosives and narcotics K-9 handler, and later as a nuclear weapons systems and installation security superintendent before retiring in 2002.

In 2003, he continued his federal service occupation as an anti-terrorism officer at Camp Humphreys, Korea. From 2004 to 2010, Dr. Griess served in several positions to include the Director of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (S-3), Director of Emergency Services, and the Chief of Plans Analysis and Integration (S-5) Office. He later served as the USAG Schweinfurt Deputy Garrison Commander from July 2011-2013 and the USAG Ansbach Deputy Garrison Commander from 2013-2015.

Dr. Griess is a recipient of the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service and the Installation Management Command’s Stalwart Award. His military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal and several Air Force commendation and achievement awards.

His academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Workforce Development from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Master of Science degrees in Human Resource Management and Management Information Systems from Lesley University, and a Master of Science Degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, National Defense University in 2011, and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government. He earned a doctorate of Organizational Leadership from Capella University. His professional civilian education includes the Army Management Staff College’s Sustaining Base Leadership and Management (SBLM) and Continuing Education for Senior Leaders (CESL) courses.
