Command Sergeant Major Michael P. McTernan

CSM Michael P. McTernan was born on 26 June 1974 in Sacramento, California.  He reported to Basic Training and Advance Individual Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama in February 1999.

CSM Mcternan has served in every leadership position from team leader to First Sergeant, and other positions to include Maneuver and Mobility Support NCO, Operations Sergeant, Brigade Assistant Training Officer, Provost Marshall NCOIC, Force Protection NCO, and Battalion Operations SGM.  He has been assigned stateside at Fort Bragg North Carolina.  His overseas assignments include Fort Shafter Hawaii and Schofield Barracks Hawaii.  He has deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Haiti, and Kosovo for combat, humanitarian, and peacekeeping operations.   

CSM McTernan’s military schools include the Basic Airborne Course, Combat Life Savers Course, Air Assault Course, Basic Leader Course, Hazardous Materials Transportation Course, Advance Leader Course, Jumpmaster Course, Non-Lethal Weapons Instructor Course, Battle Staff Course, Senior Leader Course, Combat Skills Course, JSOC Specialized SERE Training Course, Sergeants Major Academy (Class 44) . 

CSM McTernan’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak-leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with four oak-leaf clusters, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal with four oak-leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal (1 Bronze Service Star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (4 Campaign Stars), Inherent Resolve Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (5th Award), NATO Medal-Kosovo, Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
