16 JAN 1838 hrs

Thank you for taking the time to attend the FHL town hall on power disruptions. Here are the Q&As asked during the town hall:

How long do Milpitas residents have to return home once power is restored? 24 hours

Do we use Alert system? Yes, but we limit the usage to life and death emergencies. Cadence Communities has an alert messaging system for routine and urgent messaging. We also use emails and social media to communicate to people.

Will CYS pro-rate for lost days? Yes.

Can you provide scheduled update for consistent messaging? YES, great idea! We have created a website page in the Public Affairs Section to provide updates at 0900 and 1500 hrs daily until power is fully restored. Critical info will be published as needed.

YOU CAN CALL THE PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE ANY TIME WITH QUESTIONS: 831-386-2682 OR 831-386-2630.

16 JAN 1443 hrs

Fort Hunter Liggett Community,

Please note that the townhall meeting has been rescheduled to 4 PM today. Your presence is important, and we encourage you to attend, as your insights and inquiries are vital to our discussions. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you all at 4 PM at the HQ parking lot across from Bldg. 238.

16 JAN 1334 hrs

We sincerely apologize for the continued inconvenience during the cold winter period. We are working around-the-clock to repair equipment and find solutions. A post-wide town hall is scheduled today at 3:30 PM in the HQ parking lot (by Bldg. 238/Flagpole) to provide an overview and update on the power disruption situation.

Authorized Milpitas residents (Soldiers, current Army Civilians, and their Families) are highly encouraged to seek off-post housing as we continue to diagnose and repair equipment.

ACS is at the Warming Station/Wellness Center throughout the day to assist people with completing the reimbursement form. You do not need this form at the time of hotel reservation, but you will need it, along with the lodging receipt, when you file your reimbursement form at the conclusion of the event. The new hours of operations are 7 AM to 10 PM.  The Warming Station/Wellness Center may be used for all non-work activities.

Directors and supervisors should use their Continuity of Operations and consider the telework option if the position is authorized to telework.

During ongoing troubleshooting of the Fort Hunter Liggett electrical infrastructure, we discovered a second damaged switch. As of 8 AM on JAN 16, only a third of the installation has power; however, some critical buildings are running on generators.

Please note that the housing area does not need to unplug devices at this time. However, offices and tenants located in building facilities, will need to unplug anything that is at risk of an electrical surge that may cause further damage. Additionally, please conserve electricity usage to reduce the load on the power grid. For those using personal generators, use extreme caution to ensure that propane fumes do not enter your home.

DO NOT USE GAS STOVES AS HEATING SOURCES.

Finally, there is a surge of flu-like and other winter-related ailments, and we encourage everyone to use masks and hand sanitizer often. If you are sick, please stay home and let someone know.

16 JAN 1122 hrs

Your patience and understanding are appreciated as we work diligently to restore normal operations. Together, we can ensure that accurate information reaches everyone in our community.

15 JAN 2003 hrs

Unfortunately, due to ongoing generator issues, power restoration will not be completed this evening. However, the Department of Public Works will work diligently tomorrow morning to try and repair the generator.  Milpitas residents eligible for evacuation reimbursement are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the support.  If you did not complete the required paperwork at the Wellness Center today, you may still evacuate and submit forms starting at 0730 tomorrow at the Wellness Center. The Wellness Center will remain open 24/7 as a warming and charging station, with beverages and snacks available for those seeking a source of comfort during this time. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we address this situation. As always, we will continue to keep the community informed as the information becomes available.

15 JAN 1700 hrs

Technicians are working on providing generator power to Milpitas housing area, and we believe power will be restored tonight after 2200 hrs. To ease concerns of those with young children and people requiring special medical care, the FHL Commander is authorizing an evacuation for Milpitas housing area if those residents determine they need to.

ACS will remain at the Warming/Wellness Center until 1800 hrs to help people complete evacuation forms. They will resume assistance at 0730 on Thursday.

Spanish Oaks housing area will remain on generator power overnight. FHL is working on a contract to fix identified power switch damage to restore power permanently.

15 JAN 1432 hrs

At 1600 hrs today, we will make a call to issue a VOLUNTARY temporary evacuation for residents. Residents are not required to use off-post lodging.

DO NOT make hotel reservations yet. DO complete reimbursement form to prepare for a possible voluntary evacuation. Reimbursement, if an evacuation authorization is issued, is only for Army Civilians, Soldiers and their dependents living on post. Contractors and other unaffiliated residents are not eligible for reimbursement.

We are in the process of acquiring parts to repair damaged equipment. We continue to work with PG&E to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. Reminder, please DO NOT use your gas stove as a heating source because of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Wellness Center continues to serve as a 24 hr warming station. The Warrior Restaurant is open from 0600 to 0730 for breakfast, 1130-1300 hrs for lunch and 1700-1830 hrs for dinner. CASH ONLY. Breakfast is $4.40, lunch is $7.10 and dinner is $6.10. The Commissary is open. PX and gas station are closed. Hacienda will not be serving food for pickup tonight.

15 JAN 1222 hrs

As we continue to troubleshoot the power disruption and prepare for a possible voluntary evacuation, we encourage all residents to go to the Warming/Wellness Center starting from 1300hrs, to complete a request form for reimbursement for off-post lodging and per diem. Evacuation is not imminent – this is just to prepare for an expedient reimbursement process if that route is chosen. Soldiers without local dependents must go through their unit to request TDY orders to cover off-post lodging.  We ask for your continued patience and understanding as we work through the issue. We are working closely with PG&E to troubleshoot and resolve issue.

15 JAN 1045 hrs

We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience from the power disruptions since Monday 13 JAN. The Wellness Center will remain open 24/7 until we fix the power issue. DPW is working very hard to provide power to the buildings still affected. Unfortunately, expect intermittent power outages throughout the day as we continue to test and repair the circuits. The CDC; Teen and Recreation Centers, Bowling Alley, Cybrary, and Fitness Center are closed until further notice. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
