When stationed overseas, your service member / DAC is authorized a free U.S. Postal Service (USPS) mail box on post and shares it with command-sponsored dependents. The Camp Darby, Caserma Del Din and Ederle Post Offices offer the same services and rates as in the U.S.
BENEFITS OF A P.O. BOX BEFORE PCSING
Service members / DACs can request a free P.O. Box up to 60 days before PCSing. There are two ways to set up your box before you PCS:
• Your Sponsor can visit the post office in person to request a box for you. They will need a copy of your orders and your DoD number.
• With PCS Orders, you can request a mailbox via email at: usag-vicenza.darby.postalservicecenter@armyusag.org
There are some benefits to having a box before arriving:
- Submit a change of address before traveling so that bills and mail are forwarded without delay.
- Ship some household goods to your mailbox before traveling so they arrive when you do. Upon arrival each service member is assigned an individual combination lock box where they and their family will receive mail for the duration of the sponsors tour.

SIGN UP FOR A P.O. BOX
Soldiers and authorized patrons must be within 45 days of reporting to Camp Darby to request a mailbox receptacle.

APO MAIL SERVICE
Using USPS on post, sending mail or packages back home takes 10-14 days with priority or first class service.
Your P.O. Box operates like a regular U.S. address and your family and friends can send you mail at U.S. postage rates and avoid international charges. DO NOT include a city or country on an APO address label.
Example of how to write your address:
If you’re not in a hurry for your packages to arrive at their destination, try sending them on a Space-A flight. Shipping may take longer, but you might save a few bucks!
USPS Ground Advantage combines aspects of the previously-offered First Class Package and Retail/Parcel Select Ground. It's the most cost-effective USPS shipping service for items under one pound, and heavier packages are charged by the pound (rounded up). For example, if your package weighs 8.3 lb, you will pay the 9-lb price.
MILITARY POSTAL SERVICE (MPS)
Important Notice on Household Goods (HHG) Shipping:
Per federal regulations, shipping household goods (HHG) between APO addresses in conjunction with a PCS is strictly restricted. In accordance with DoDI 4525.9, the Military Postal System (MPS) prohibits the following:
Official Mail Restrictions: Sending household goods associated with a temporary or permanent duty relocation via the Intra-Theater Delivery System (IDS) or official mail programs is prohibited.
Transportation Office Coordination: Any shipments utilizing the MPS must be coordinated with and approved by the Component’s transportation office prior to MPS acceptance.
Mailing Limitations: Household goods may not be shipped as free mail. Only service uniforms and the personal gear required to perform official duties at the next duty station are permitted.
RECEIVING PACKAGES OR LETTERS
Because your P.O. Box operates like a regular U.S. address, your family and friends can send you packages at U.S. postage rates and avoid international charges. DO NOT include a city or country on an APO address label.
