Temporary Lodging & Housing Eligibility
The type of tour and dependent travel authorized in your Soldier’s orders will determine your Soldier’s lodging upon arrival and housing eligibility in Italy.

Temporary Lodging Before/After Arrival
If your Soldier is authorized temporary lodging, your family will need to make 2 types of reservations when getting ready to PCS overseas:
- Lodging Prior to Departure
- CONUS Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE) reimburses Stateside Soldiers for up to 5 nights of lodging and meals in gov’t quarters prior to departing for Italy.
- OCONUS Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) reimburses overseas Soldiers for a certain number of nights (depending on duty station) of lodging and meals in gov’t quarters prior to departing for Italy.
- Lodging Upon Arrival in Italy
- Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) reimburses Soldiers for overseas gov’t lodging and meals in 10- night increments. On-post lodging at the Ederle Inn books up fast! Because on-post lodging is limited, most families stay in off-post hotels.

CASA TOSCANA
Important Notice: On-Post Lodging Renovations & Limited Availability
Please be advised that a major housing renovation project is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026.
Because of this necessary infrastructure upgrade, a significant portion of our on-post lodging inventory will be offline, and room availability will be severely restricted throughout the duration of the project.
What This Means For You
Plan Ahead: All incoming personnel, sponsors, and travelers must plan their arrival timelines well in advance.
Expect Limited Space: Space on post will be highly limited. If you are arriving during Peak PCS season, please be prepared for the strong possibility of being routed to off-post temporary lodging.
Coordinate with Sponsors: Work closely with your command sponsor as early as possible to secure reservations or obtain the necessary Statements of Non-Availability (SNA) for commercial lodging alternatives.
The Casa Toscana has 22 rooms: 13 Standard Rooms, 9 Apartment Rooms with Kitchenettes, 4 Pet Rooms, and 1 Handicap Accessible Room. Room placement is based on the number in your party, not on desired room size.
Default reservation stay period:
- PCS-In Military Members: 60 days
- PCS-In Civilians Members: 90 days
- PCS-Out: 10 days
Amenities: Microwave, fridge, coffee maker, DVD Player, Wi-Fi, and “Sunrise to Go” continental breakfast
NOTE: The electricity at the Casa is 220v (not U.S. 110v).
No need to wait for Orders, make your reservation up to SIX months in advance!
DoD member, spouse, or sponsor can reserve a room. Credit card information is needed to confirm reservation
To request a room, email the Casa Toscana at usarmy.usag-italy.id-europe.list.fmwr-dmc-casa-toscana@army.mil. Make sure to include: DoD member’s name, arrival date, number in party, ages of children (if any), pets (if any), and contact information. You can also call +39 050-965-8950 to make a reservation. A copy of orders is needed to check-in.
NOTE: Delayed flight? You MUST call if you will be a no show, otherwise your reservation will be lost.
Pets
At check-in, you must present a rabies certification for your pets. Pets must always be on a leash.
Lodging costs for pets are at your own expense:
Effective 1 June 2026 the Army Lodging pet fees will increase.
$75 one time fee.
$15 per pet fee.

Off-Post Lodging
With limited space at on-post lodging, you may need to book overseas lodging at a local hotel. Due to their close vicinity to Camp Darby, the local hotels on this page are recommended.
Remember:
- Book a room at or below your TLA rate to avoid out-of-pocket expenses
- Reserve a room for 60 day
- Reserve directly through the hotel to avoid 3 party cancellation charges due to reservation changes
- Hotel pet fees are not reimbursable
Transportation to/from Off-Post Hotels
Don’t forget to pre-arrange transportation from Camp Darby to your off-post hotel. There are no shuttle or bus routes to/from Camp Darby. Ask your sponsor for the best way to travel to your hotel (keep receipts to claim expenses on your travel voucher).
Be prepared rent a car or take a taxi to get to/from Camp Darby until your POV arrives
