CSM Darrell T. Smith

Command Sergeant Major Smith is a native of Petersburg, Virginia.  He began his military career as a Mechanized Infantryman, attending One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Georgia.  Upon completion of his first enlistment, he re-classed into the Chemical Operations Specialty, and attended Basic Noncommissioned Officer Re-class (BNCOC-R).SGM Smith has served in every leadership position from team leader to 1SG, and every staff position from Company NBC NCO to Corps CBRN SGM.
His past assignments include:  Basic Combat Training, Fort Benning Georgia; 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley Kansas; 82d Airborne Division, 3d Special Forces Group, United States Army Special Operations Command, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg North Carolina; Alternate Joint Communications Center, Fort Detrick Maryland; 59th Chemical Company, Fort Drum New York; 3d Infantry Division, Germany; Medical Command, Korea and 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Alaska.  His combat and operational experience include Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.  CSM Smith's military education includes the Bradley Fighting Vehicle Infantryman's Course, the Basic, Advanced, and Senior Leader Noncommissioned Officers Course, Airborne and Air Assault School, Battle Staff Course, Drill Sergeant School, Combatives Trainers Course, Pathfinder Course, Instructor Training Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Special Operations Command Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, Master Resiliency Course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.  He is a graduate of Petersburg High School, Central Texas (Associates) & Excelsior College (Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts).
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), the Army Commendation Medal (9th award), Army Achievement Medal (7th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (5th), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th), NATO Medal, Certificate of Achievement (6 awards), the Drill Sergeant Badge, Combat Action Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Parachute Badge, and Air Assault Badge.
