Mr. Erik D. Mitchell assumed the position of Deputy to the Garrison Commander at USAG West Point (IMCOM Directorate - Training) on December 20, 2020. As the DGC, he manages Garrison staff operations in support of the United States Military Academy mission. The garrison supports a base population of over 16,500 Soldiers, Civilians, Family Members, and Contractors as well as supporting over 40,000 retirees in the area.
 
Mr. Mitchell began his professional career in 1994, graduating from the United States Air Force Academy, where he was a football letterman. Over the course of his career, both as an Airman and a Civilian, he has served in numerous assignments at various locations, including as Chief of Public Works at Fort Eustis, VA, where he worked under the IMCOM Directorate – Training; Deputy/Director of the Directorate of Public Works at Fort Bragg, NC; Director of the RDT&E Division at Port Hueneme, CA, with the Naval Facilities Command Expeditionary Warfare Center; and Region Security Engineer in Naples, Italy, for the Commander, Navy Region Europe, Southwest Asia, and Africa.
 
Mr. Mitchell’s other notable assignments include serving as Senior Advisor for Installation Management in Kabul, Afghanistan, with the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan (Ministry of Defense Advisor); Engineering Director at the Combined Forces Special Operations Component Command, also in Kabul; Deputy Division Chief of the Enduring Sites Division in Baghdad, Iraq, with United States Forces – Iraq (USF-I), J-7; Chief of Engineering Plans and Services at USAG Yuma Proving Grounds in Yuma, AZ; Principal Engineer in the private sector in Colorado; and Chief of the Readiness Flight at Eielson AFB, AK, with the 354th Civil Engineering Squadron. His early career in the Air Force also included serving as a Civil Engineering Officer at Grand Forks AFB, ND, with the 319th Civil Engineering Squadron.
 
Mr. Mitchell is a licensed Professional Engineer and a Level III Certified Acquisitions Professional. Mr. Mitchell’s awards include the Defense of Freedom Medal, US Army Superior Civilian Service Medal (x4), US Army Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, US Army Engineer Regimental Professional Excellence Award, Bronze de Fleury Medal, Secretary of Defense Medal for Global War on Terrorism, NATO Non-Article 5 Service Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award – United States Force Iraq, J-7, US Army Achievement Medal for Civilian Service (x2).
 
Mr. Mitchell is married to his wife Jill and has three children, Connor, Fisher, and Sophia.
