Welcome!

Fort Wainwright is located in the picturesque state of Alaska, with majestic snow-capped mountains, lakes, rivers, glaciers and abundant wildlife. The post is situated within easy access to downtown Fairbanks and the surrounding communities of North Pole and Eielson Air Force Base. Home to the Athabascan people for thousands of years and more recently settled as a gold rush boomtown, the Fairbanks area is a close-knit community of inviting, diverse residents living in the “Golden Heart of Alaska.”

We at ACS have established a centrally located, responsive service for furnishing information, assistance, guidance, and referral program to members of the military. Did you know?

• Fairbanks is the second largest city in the state? The population of the city is 34,540 and the Fairbanks metropolitan area's population is 97,484. 

• Alaska’s glaciers cover more than 29,000 square miles. Portage Glacier, just 45 miles south of downtown Anchorage, is one of Alaska’s most visited attractions.

• Alaska has about six times as many pilots and 14 times as many aircraft per capita as the rest of the United States.

• The strongest earthquake ever recorded in North America shook Anchorage and all of Southcentral Alaska on March 27, 1964. It measured 9.2 on the Richter Scale.

• Fairbanks lies in a valley between two mountain ranges, the Alaska Range and the Brooks Range -- creating unique sub-arctic desert conditions. Centrally located in Alaska’s Interior, Fairbanks is north of Denali National Park and Preserve and south of the Arctic Circle.

• Temperatures in Fairbanks can reach  + 90° F in the summer and - 50° F in the winter!
