On order, 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment deploys forces to provide expeditionary air traffic services and airfield management in support of unified land operations.
1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment was constituted Jan. 22, 1968, in the Regular Army as Headquarters Company, 58th Aviation Battalion and activated on March 1, 1968, in Vietnam. The battalion was inactivated February 17, 1969, for 17 years until it was redesignated Sept. 1, 1986, as Headquarters and Service Company, 58th Aviation Battalion. On July 16, 1987, the unit was redesignated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 58th Aviation, and activated at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (organic elements concurrently constituted and activated), until it was inactivated June 15, 2007 at Fort Bragg. The unit was most recently activated October 16, 2007 at Fort Rucker, Alabama.
1st Battalion, 58th Aviation Regiment participated in campaigns in Vietnam, Southwest Asia and the Global War on Terrorism. The battalion was involved in the Tet Counteroffensive; Counteroffensive, Phase IV; Counteroffensive, Phase V; Counteroffensive, Phase VI in Vietnam. In Southwest Asia, the battalion participated in the Defense of Saudi Arabia and the Liberation and Defense of Kuwait. In support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the battalion participated in Iraqi Governance and National Resolution.
Unit decorations include the Meritorious Unit Commendation (Army), Streamer embroidered IRAQ 2005-2006; the Meritorious Unit Commendation (Army), Streamer embroidered CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST ASIA 2008-2009; and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Streamer embroidered VIETNAM 1968.

Sergeant Major Carlos J. Silva Lind is from Naguabo, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the Puerto Rico National Guard in August 1995 as a 63B (Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic).
