LTC John A. Meier

Lieutenant Colonel John Meier is a graduate of the University of Kansas where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2008. His first assignment was at Fort Bliss, Texas where he served as a Fire Support Officer, Platoon Leader, and Battery Executive Officer in 2nd Battalion, 37th Armor Battalion and 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment from 2009-2011 in the 1st Brigade, 1st Armored Division.

Following the Captain’s Career Course, Lieutenant Colonel Meier served in multiple staff positions in 2nd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment; 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment; and 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Battalion at Fort Drum, New York. He commanded C Battery, 2nd Battalion, 15th Field Artillery Regiment, and later Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 10th Mountain Division Artillery before departing for the Mission Command Training Program at Fort Leavenworth in 2017 where he spent a year in the Opponent Forces (OPFOR) Directorate.

Following the Command and General Staff College and School of Advanced Military Studies from 2018-2020, he served a year working for the Combined Security Transition Command Afghanistan as a planner, then moved to Fort Carson, Colorado where he served as the Battalion Operations Officer and Executive officer for 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment in the 4th Infantry Division’s 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team. He then spent two years in Hohenfels, Germany working at the Joint Multinational Readiness Center to include six months supporting the Security Assistance Group – Ukraine in 2025. His most recent assignment was the Professor of Military Science at Valley Forge Military College in Pennsylvania.

Lieutenant Colonel Meier completed three combat tours overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Air Assault Badge, and multiple campaign medals. He served in units that earned the Presidential Campaign Medal and Meritorious Unit Citation.
