LTC Alexander D. Burgos

Lieutenant Colonel Alexander D. Burgos graduated from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech), commissioned into the U.S. Army Infantry, and entered active duty in May 2005. His first assignment was with 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, KS where he deployed to Al Asad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as an Infantry Platoon Leader.

As a Captain, Lieutenant Colonel Burgos served Company Executive Officer for C Company,
1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, Kansas before completing the Military Intelligence Officers Advanced Course at Fort Huachuca, AZ. Upon completing the Military Intelligence Officers Advanced Course, Lieutenant Colonel Burgos returned to Fort Riley, KS as the Assistant S-2 for 2nd HBCT, 1st Infantry Division where he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, and taking command of A Company, 1-1 Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st HBCT, 1st Infantry Division where he deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq. Lieutenant Colonel Burgos than served as the Assistant Brigade S-2 in 1st HBCT, 1st Infantry Division.

Following graduation from Intermediate Level Education (ILE), as a Major, he was the Brigade Intelligence Plans Chief for the 66th MI Brigade, Wiesbaden, Germany. Following that assignment he also served as the Battalion Operations Officer and Executive Officer for the 24th Military Intelligence Battalion, 66th Military Intelligence Brigade in Wiesbaden, Germany. Following that assignment he was the G2 Intelligence Planner for 8th Army in Camp Humphreys, South Korea and the Executive Officer J2 for United States Forces Korea, and Camp Humphreys, South Korea. Lieutenant Colonel Burgos was then assigned as the Chief Joint Intelligence Plans, J25, United States Forces, Korea J2
at Camp Humphreys, South Korea. Lieutenant Colonel Burgos then returned stateside to serve in the Counter Violent Extremists Organizations (C-VEO) Division, National Strategy Branch for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J5 Plans and Policy Directorate, Counter Threats and International Cooperation.

Lieutenant Colonel Burgos’s schools and education include the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Mechanized Leaders Course, Military Intelligence Officer Advanced Course, and ILE. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Virginia Tech, a Masters of Arts in Leadership Development from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master of Science in Science and Technology Intelligence, from the National Intelligence University.

Lieutenant Colonel Burgos’s individual awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Badge. His unit awards include the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Navy Unit Commendation and Army Superior Unit Award.
