Command Sergeant Major Claudia Tapia a native of Mexico, who was raised in Houston, Texas, enlisted in the Army in October 2000. She attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

CSM Tapia possesses a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a Master of Science in management.
CSM Tapia’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd award), Driver Badge, Schutzenschnur – Gold (German Armed Forces Badge of Marksmanship), the Office of the Secretary of Defense Badge, and numerous unit and service medals and ribbons. She is also a recipient of the Adjutant General Corps’ Achievement Medal and the Horatio Gates Bronze Medal.
