Command Sgt. Maj. Joseph Traylor
CSM Joseph Traylor serves as the Command Sergeant Major, United States Army Garrison Presidio of Monterey.
A native of Illinois, he enlisted in the Army in 1994 as a Ground Surveillance Systems Operator until he reclassified to Intelligence Analyst in 2005. CSM Traylor is now a Military Intelligence Sergeant Major.
CSM Traylor has served in a variety of diverse leadership positions ranging from team leader, G2 Sergeant Major, Analysis and Control Element (ACE) Noncommissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC), Observer/Controller-Trainer, Joint Targeting and Network Effects Cell NCOIC, Corps Intelligence Planner, Military Transition Team NCOIC and Intelligence Trainer and Advisor to the Iraqi Army, Battalion S3 Air Operations Officer, and Operations Sergeant.
CSM Traylor’s previous assignments include two assignments at Fort Stewart, Georgia, first with the 124th Military Intelligence Battalion, 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and the second with the Division Headquarters, 3rd Infantry Division; two assignments with the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina twice with the 313th Military Intelligence Battalion, 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, and with the Division Headquarters; Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, Louisiana (Task Force 3). His overseas assignments include three tours to the Republic of Korea; two with the 102nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division and the third with the Headquarters, Eighth United States Army; one tour with the Headquarters, United States Army Africa, Vicenza, Italy; one tour in Wiesbaden, Germany, with Headquarters, V Corps, then with Intelligence & Sustainment Company, Headquarters & Headquarters Battalion, V Corps, and with 1st Military Intelligence Battalion (Aerial Expedition), 66th Military Intelligence Brigade, Intelligence and Security Command; his previous assignment was at Fort Gordon, Georgia as the Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) Battalion, 116th Military Intelligence Brigade, Intelligence and Security Command. He has deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
CSM Traylor’s military and civilian education includes all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System thru the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Pre-Command Courses, CSM Development Programs, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Airborne Courses, Pathfinder Course, Air Assault and Rappel Master Courses, Air Movement Operations Course, Equal Opportunity Representative Course, and Master Resilience Training Course. He has earned a Bachelors in Business and Management from Excelsior College and an Associates in Intelligence Studies from Cochise College.
CSM Traylor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (7th award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (5th award), Afghanistan Champaign Medal (Bronze Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Korean Defense Service Medal, North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Medal (ISAF Clasp), Combat Action Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Air Assault Badge, German Airborne Badge (Bronze), and the Military Intelligence Corps Associations Knowlton Award.
