Col. Erich C. Spragg

Col. Spragg graduated from Clemson University and commissioned as a Military Intelligence Officer in 1995. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and two Masters Degrees: Public Policy Administration from Georgetown University and International Security Affairs from the National Defense University.

Col. Spragg’s first duty assignment was Fort Gordon, Ga., where he held a variety of positions culminating as the Battalion S3 for the 721st Military Intelligence Battalion. Upon completion of the Military Intelligence Captain’s Career Course, Colonel Spragg was assigned to the 3d Infantry Division. From 1999-2002, he served as the Battalion S-2 (Intelligence Officer) for 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment (“Cotton- Balers”).

In March 2002, he assumed command of Alpha Company, 103d Military Intelligence Battalion in direct support of 1st Brigade, 3d Infantry Division. Upon his redeployment, Col. Spragg was selected as a Joint Chiefs of Staff/Office of the Secretary of Defense Intern. After his second deployment as a Military Transition Team member, Col. Spragg attended the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan. From 2007-2009, he served as the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer for the 344th Military Intelligence Battalion at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas. Col. Spragg then served as the Senior Intelligence Observer/Controller and Chief of Operations for Operations Group Bravo, Mission Command Training Program.

After his third deployment to Iraq, Col. Spragg was assigned to the Army Staff as the Military Assistant for the Principal Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2. From 2014-2016, he commanded the 309th Military Intelligence Battalion, Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Prior to his attendance at the National Defense University, Col. Spragg served as the Chief of the Knowledge and Analysis Section (KAS), NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Turkey.

Col. Spragg’s operational deployments include Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn. Colonel Spragg’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), the Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist Badge.

Col. Spragg is married to the former Heather Marie Kelly from Columbia, S.C. and they have four children: Elizabeth, Hannah, James Michael, and Emma Cate.
