Lt. Col. Sheila L. Coker assumed duties as Garrison Deputy Commander at Fort McCoy June 18, 2018. Immediately prior to this assignment, she served as the Comptroller, 311th Signal Command (Theater), Fort Shafter, Hawaii.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Management and Human Resources from Park University, Parkville, Mo., and a Master of Military Art and Science degree from the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan. Her military education includes Joint and Combined Warfighting School-Hybrid, Reserve Component National Security Course, Command and General Staff College, Financial Management Captains Career Course, Commanders/First Sergeants Course, Army Force Management Course, Finance Officer Basic Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Course, and Primary Leadership Development Course.
After enlisting into the Active Army in 1990 and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, Coker was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in 1999 into the Finance Corps. Throughout her career she served in the Active Army, Army Reserve (Individual Ready Reserve and Troop Program Unit), and now Active Guard and Reserve status. Formerly, she served as the Acting Assistant Chief of Staff to the 9th Mission Support Command Commanding General in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Assignment Officer for Finance and Adjutant General branches at Human Resources Command in Fort Knox, Ky. Other prior assignments include: Budget Officer for the 85th Support Command, Arlington Heights, Ill.; Internal Control Auditor for the Army Reserve Medical Command, Pinellas Park, Fla.; Finance/Budget Officer for the 7th Army Reserve Command, Schwetzingen, Germany; Program Manager for the 90th Regional Support Command; and Assistant S-3 for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 7th Brigade (Training Support), 95th Division (Institutional Training) in North Little Rock, Ark. In her last tour of Active Duty prior to returning to the USAR, she served in various leadership positions with the 39th Finance Battalion, Hanau, Germany, including Battalion Deputy Disbursing Officer, Battalion S-2/3, Detachment Commander, and Internal Control/Quality Assurance Officer In Charge. Coker has multiple deployments to Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bosnia, and Kosovo
Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with five Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral two, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon, NATO (Kosovo), Kuwait Liberation Medal-Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait Liberation Medal-Kuwait.
