Colonel Jason McKenzie
Colonel Jason McKenzie, a native of eastern Kentucky and is married with three children. He assumed the command of Fort Hunter Liggett on June 26, 2025.
COL McKenzie began his military career as an enlisted Soldier in the Kentucky Army National Guard in 1998 and earned his commission through ROTC as a Quartermaster Officer in 2001. He served on active duty with the 10th Mountain Division deploying both to Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2005 he transitioned to the Army National Guard for relief efforts from Hurricane Katrina then transferred to the Army Reserve as an Active Guard Reserve in 2007.
COL McKenzie’s active-duty assignments include supply platoon leader, Company Executive Officer, and Battalion S4 for the 210th Brigade Support Battalion in Fort Drum, NY. His National Guard assignments include Assistant Brigade S4, 138th Fires Brigade for Hurricane Katrina and Company Commander for Bravo Company, 340th Brigade Support Battalion in Atascadero, CA.
COL McKenzie’s Active Guard Reserve assignments include: Operations Officer, 382d CSSB; Company Commander, 439th QM Company; Assistant Professor of Military Science, East Tennessee State University; Secretary of the General Staff, 7th Mission Support Command; Brigade S4, 361st Civil Affairs Brigade, Commander’s Initiative Group, U.S. Army Europe; Support Operations Officer, 304th Sustainment Brigade; USAG Fort Hunter Liggett Deputy Commander; HQDA G4 Chief of Operations, and Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief of Army Reserve.
His most recent assignment was the United States Forces Korea J4 Operations Division Chief and United Nations Command U4 from June 2023- June 2025. His previous assignment was serving as Executive Officer to the Deputy Chief of Army Reserve (DCAR) at the Pentagon and Fort Belvoir, VA. Prior to his XO position, he served as the Current Operations Chief for the HQDA G4 for the COVID-19 response and Operation Allies Welcome.
COL McKenzie attended the Quartermaster Officer Basic and Advanced Course; Theater Logistics Planners Program; United States Army Command and General Staff College; the Joint and Combined Warfighting School-Hybrid; the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy; and Joint Logistics Course. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Morehead State University and two master’s degrees from Central Michigan University and the National Defense University.
His awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Staff Badge, Rigger Badge, Parachutist Badge, and German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge-Gold. He is a Demonstrated Master Logistician, a Strategic Studies Graduate, certified in Defense Support to Civil Authorities and holds a lifetime commission as a Kentucky Colonel.
