Command Sgt. Maj. Kenne P. Hanson

Command Sergeant Major Kenne P. Hanson is the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Command Sergeant Major. He is a native of Phoenix, Arizona. He entered the Army in July of 2001 and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Moore, Georgia, graduating as an infantryman. 

Command Sergeant Major Hanson has served in many leadership positions during his 22 years of service in the Army and served as the command sergeant major for the United Nations Security Battalion-Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, South Korea, before coming to JBLM.

Command Sergeant Major Hanson’s overseas assignments include 2nd Cavalry Regiment, Rose Barracks, Germany; UNCSB-JSA, Panmunjom, South Korea; three combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and two combat deployments in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, Afghanistan. 

His stateside assignments include 1st Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, Fort Liberty, North Carolina; 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, JBLM; 1st Battalion, 310th Infantry Regiment, Fort Liberty; 2nd Battalion,87th Infantry Regiment, Fort Drum, New York; 2nd Battalion, 39th Infantry Regiment, Fort Jackson, South Carolina; 1st Battalion, 3rd Security Force Assistance Brigade, Fort Cavazos, Texas; and 2nd Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Command Sergeant Major Hanson has completed all levels of the Army’s Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System and is a graduate of the United States Army Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Combat Advisor Training Course, Battle Staff Course and the Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape Course. 

His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice from Excelsior College, New York. 

Command Sergeant Major Hanson’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters; the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters; the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters; the Army Good Conduct Medal with six knots; the National Defense Service Medal; the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a bronze star; the Iraq Campaign Medal with a silver star; the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; The Korean Defense Service Medal; the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Medal with a numeral 5; the Army Service Medal; the Overseas Service Medal with a numeral 5; and the NATO Medal. 

Command Sergeant Major Hanson is an award recipient from the Order of Saint Maurice, Order of Saint Barbara, and the Command Sergeant Major Kelso Leadership Award from the United States Army Ranger School. His badges consist of the Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge and Ranger Tab. 

Command Sergeant Major Hanson has been married to Summer Hanson of Dearborn, Michigan, for more than 15 years. They have an 11-year-old son – Logan.
