The name "Sovizzo" is believed to originate from the Latin term "Subvicum," meaning "under the town," which likely references its geographical position relative to the earliest settlements, primarily located on the surrounding hills.
An alternative theory suggests that "Sovizzo" may derive from "Suino" (pork), reflecting the area's historical association with a specific breed of pigs once raised there.

La Befana
an old witch who comes to town on January 6th to offer candies to children
Epiphany, a national holiday in Italy celebrated on January 6th, marks the end of the Christmas season and commemorates the presentation of baby Jesus to the Three Wise Men. This day is also associated with the legend of “la Befana”, an old witch who flies on a broomstick. Legend says Befana refused to join the Wise Men on their journey, later regretting her decision. Unable to find baby Jesus, she instead leaves gifts for children, becoming a figure similar to Santa Claus. Italian children hang stockings for Befana on Epiphany Eve, hoping for treats. She rewards well-behaved children with gifts and leaves "coal" (often sweet black candy) for those less well-behaved.
