U.S. Army Release
WHEELER ARMY AIRFIELD, Hawaii (Feb. 26) – U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii has been selected to be a part of a pilot program aimed to improve permanent-change-of-station moves.
Named Summer Surge, for the traditional military move season, the program is geared at improving the PCS experience for all Soldiers and their families.
Now in its second year, U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii is one of five garrisons participating in the program.
Initially, the program was focused on improving permanent-change-of-station moves for Soldiers heading to or heading out after completing programs at the Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and the Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas.
The program will be rolled out Armywide next year to improve the experience for all Soldiers and families.
Information gleaned from the program has led to the launch of a new data group system developed by Installation Management Command called the PCS Process and Data Management (PPROMA) Tool.
The new system will include information about requests for orders, transportation information, housing information and more.
This tool will allow the garrison’s staff to see what is happening during a Soldier's PCS. In future updates, Soldiers will have access to view every step of their PCS.
Over the next several months, the garrison will publish a series of articles explaining the steps of the PCS move more in-depth, including medical and Exceptional Family Member Program needs, requests for orders, transportation, housing, spouse employment, child care options and more with input from subject matter experts in each field.
Resources and information will also be posted on the garrison's social media platforms. Looking to catch up on past posts? Search for #SummerSurgeHI.
