  • 3
Complete installation check-in requirements and schedule your move-in.

Planning ahead will help reduce stress and ensure a smoother arrival in Hawaii. Coordinate early with your chain of command, gaining installation, and HSO.

  • Review official housing information on the USAG Hawaii RCI page Official
  • Confirm your eligibility for on-post family housing based on rank, dependent status, and assignment orders.
  • Gather key documents such as orders, DEERS enrollment, proof of dependents, and any required Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) documentation.
  • Discuss temporary lodging, arrival timelines, and any special needs with your sponsor or unit.
Use your gaining unit sponsor and official Army channels for the most current and accurate housing information. Avoid relying on unofficial social media pages for decision-making.

Upon arrival, you will complete both installation in-processing and housing-specific actions. Follow guidance from your unit and the HSO.

  • 1
Check in with your unit and follow installation in-processing requirements.
  • 2
Visit or contact the Housing Services Office (HSO) for counseling on on-post and off-post options, waitlists, and entitlements.
  • 3
Coordinate with the privatized RCI housing partner to review available homes, community policies, and lease terms.
  • 4
Complete your lease and move-in inspection, documenting the condition of your home. Keep copies of all paperwork for your records.
If you have life, health, or safety concerns with housing at any point, raise them through the housing partner, HSO, and your chain of command.

  • Follow your community handbook for guidance related to pets, parking, guests, quiet hours, and overall community standards.
  • Use Island Palm Communities maintenance request system for routine work orders. Submit emergency work orders by telephone.
  • If an issue is not resolved, document your concern and elevate through the appropriate channels, starting with Island Palm Communities, then the Army Housing Officer, and your chain of command, as appropriate.
  • Participate in Resident Advisory Boards, town halls, or community meetings. These forums provide an opportunity to provide feedback and improve the community.

Multiple resources are available to assist you, including housing, installation support agencies, and your unit leadership.
